If it is safe to do so, bring the casualty to shore. Place the casualty in a dry and well-ventilated area.
1. Responsive and breathing: Help the casualty sit upright and encourage coughing to clear the airway.
2. Unresponsive but breathing: Place the casualty into the recovery position, wait for emergency medical assistance or transport them to a hospital.
3. Unresponsive, not breathing, or is gasping: Begin CPR immediately.
STAY CALM
DON’T JUMP INTO THE WATER IF IT IS NOT SAFE FOR YOU.
DON’T turn the casualty upside down.
DON’T carry the casualty on your shoulder and run.
Take the casualty to the hospital for a general health check.
